PESHAWAR, Pakistan - Two moderate earthquakes jolted parts of Pakistan and Afghanistan Wednesday but there were no reports of injuries or damage, officials said.
The first quake, measuring 5.2 on the Richter Scale, struck at 7:21 am (0221 GMT) with its epicentre in Afghanistan's Hindukush mountains, Pakistan Seismological Department official Ishtiaq Ahmed told AFP.
It was felt in northeastern Afghanistan and about 300 kilometers (186 miles) away over the border in the northwestern Pakistani town of Peshawar and the northern district of Chitral.
"It was a moderate intensity earthquake," Ahmed said, adding that there were no immediate reports of casualties in Pakistan.
Another quake, registering a magnitude of 5.0, later rocked the southwestern Pakistani province of Baluchistan, which borders southern Afghanistan, at 4:12 pm (1112 GMT), Ahmed said.
Tremors were felt in Quetta, other parts of the province and across the border, he said. The epicentre was about 500 kilometers southwest of Peshawar.
No reports of casualties or damage to property had been received so far, Baluchistan provincial spokesman Raziq Bugti said.
