Foreign Minister Ahmet DavutoÄŸlu’s dossier includes many items fom Iran to the 1915 incidents.
DavutoÄŸlu’s Washington visit is closely followed by many capital cities, Middle East countries in particular. Turkey and the United States that are two countries that play a key role in regional developments put all critical issues on the table.
DavutoÄŸlu first held talks with members of the U.S. House of Representatives and senators and expressed Turkey’s views. Talks centered on Syria. Turkey once again expressed its view on a diplomatic solution.
DavutoÄŸlu also held a telephone conversation with EU Foreign Policy Chief Catherine Ashton. Iran’s nuclear program, sanctions on Tehran and escalating sectarian tensions in Iraq were also taken up at talks.
Problems encountered in the U.S. Congress due to the influence of some lobbies during the approval process of arms sales to Turkey were also brought up at DavutoÄŸlu’s talks.
The Turkish delegation expressed its annoyance over a draft resolution on Armenian allegations on the 1915 incident brought up in the U.S. Congress from time to time.
DavutoÄŸlu addressed students at George Washington University, expressing Turkey’s views on important items on the agenda.
DavutoÄŸlu will meet with U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton on Monday February 13.
