Meteorology officials have warned people across Turkey to prepare for torrential rains and heavy snowfall that is forecast to cause significant problems across the country through the weekend as temperatures plummet by between eight to 10 degrees Celsius.
Officials have also cautioned against using private vehicles for today and suggested people take public transportation instead, according to daily Hürriyet.
The Büyük Menderes river or Meander has overflown its banks, inundating thousands of acres of land.
Heavy rain showers have been effective in the area since last night.
The inundated lands are in the İncirliova, Germencik and Söke townships.
As a result of the flooding in the Söke irrigation regulator, some parts of the Söke-Bagarası road have been closed.
The damage estimate will be made after the flood waters have receded.
Heavy snowfall expected
Strong precipitation is expected to continue through today across Turkey, except the Aegean and west Mediterranean shores, while officials have forecast heavy snowfall for the eastern Marmara region, the western and central Black Sea basin.
