Damascus warns against 'provocations'

DAMASCUS, Feb 24 (AFP) - Syria, under pressure over its dominant role in neighbouring Lebanon, warned Thursday that "provocations" against Beirut and Damascus could lead to "negative developments."
"The continuation inside and outside Lebanon of provocations and incitement against Syria and Lebanon risks leading to negative developments that will harm the interests of all concerned," deputy foreign minister Walid Muallem told a news conference.
Lebanon was particularly at risk "because in times of crisis it has always paid the price in terms of the lives, safety and prosperity of its citizens," Muallem said, reading from a prepared statement.
