PLANE CRASHES, KILLING TWO
A military training plane of Turkish Air Forces crashed near western city of Manisa yesterday. Two pilots Riza Senol and Erdem Ozturk died.
TIME MAGAZINE: IDENTITY CRISIS IN EUROPE
U.S. Time Magazine, in its last issue, covered head of Mona Lisa with headscarf and researched 'identity crisis in Europe'. Time asks, ''what does it mean to be European?'' and says, ''it is like a simple question, but the effect of Muslim migrants in Europe causes uneasiness that identities are under threat.''
WASHINGTON TAKES THE MESSAGE
Richard Boucher, spokesman of U.S. Department of State, said that Turkish-U.S. relations are very positive and robust. He said, ''Turkey is a very important ally. We have large strategic and economic cooperation areas.''

THOSE ACCUSED OF CORRUPTION TODAY PARDONED IN 2001
The investigation which was launched regarding a Turkish company named FERNAS in 2001 was first shelved, and then included within the scope of ''amnesty'' law. Fuat Celepci, the deputy director of Petroleum Pipeline Corporation (Botas), and FERNAS' owner Muzaffer Nasiroglu, who were arrested in the recent operation against corruption in the Energy & Natural Resources Ministry, were involved in irregularities in tenders years before. Irregularities were seen in Dogubayazit-Erzurum pipeline tender won by FERNAS in 2001. But, the report was shelved by Botas. However, the Parliamentary Commission to Investigate Corruption Allegations examined the file again in 2003, and saw that there were irregularities in the tender. But, this act was included within the scope of the conditional release law since it was committed before April of 1999 and therefore, those who were involved in this crime were not punished.
TOURISM MINISTER WHO DIDN'T GO ON VACATION FOR 33 YEARS
Turkish Culture & Tourism Minister Atilla Koc has not taken an annual leave during his 33 years of employment in the state. Koc, who went on summer vacation for the first time after he was elected as a parliamentarian, said, ''being a civil servant in Turkey means being a tourist in a way. We visited many places (as a duty when I was a civil servant).''

MESSAGE TO SURVEYS
The meeting held between Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan and U.S. President George Bush in days when cold winds are blowing between Turkey and the United States was like a sign disproving the surveys. Erdogan considered the eight-minute special meeting as ''friendly'', and said that Turkey had good relations with the United States.
USD ONE YEAR BACK IN ONE AUCTION
USD was below 1.30 New Turkish liras (YTL) yesterday (Tuesday) for the first time this year. One USD was equal to 1.29 YTL yesterday. Five-year debenture bond auction and the statements of some central banks that they will reduce USD in their reserves speeded up the decrease in dollar. Experts says that if U.S.-Iran tension continues, the USD will continue to lose value in international markets.

EUROPE ALSO AGAINST
Western world also does not trust Bush administration which targets Turkey due to anti-U.S. atmosphere in this country. According to a survey of Associated Press carried out in 9 countries, most of the Europeans think it is not the job of United States to extend democracy in the world. Bush administration which expresses its uneasiness with threats regarding anti-Americanism in Turkey assumed a different attitude towards European countries. He gave cooperation messages during his meetings in Europe.
STRONG RESPONSE TO ERDOGAN
Republican People's Party (CHP) leader Deniz Baykal strongly replied to Premier Recep Tayyip Erdogan, who claimed that the past of CHP is dirty. Baykal said that Erdogan does not have the right to make remarks about CHP. Baykal added that Erdogan should first explain claims about him.

BOSSES PREFER ZIYAL
The Council of Ministers could not nominate a person to carry out negotiations with the European Union (EU) after entry talks are opened. However, the business world has made a concrete definition of the negotiations and nominated a person as the negotiator. During their meeting with Turkish Foreign Minister Abdullah Gul on February 19th, Turkish Industrialists' and Businessmen's Association (TUSIAD) showed Turkey's Ambassador to Italy Ugur Ziyal as an example negotiator.
MAIN DOCUMENTS DELAYED
Turkey's idleness after the December 17th summit (the meeting of the European Council in which member states decided to open negotiations with Turkey on October 3rd) wasted six-month acting presidency of Luxembourg. The EU Troika will criticize Ankara on March 7th of not nominating a negotiator and setting the outlines of the negotiations. The Accession Partnership Accord will be taken up after Britain becomes the acting president.

THANKS TO ERDOGAN
Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan and U.S. President George Bush, who met at the NATO summit in Brussels, mainly debated Iraq. During the meeting which was also attended by Turkish Foreign Minister Abdullah Gul, Bush thanked Erdogan for Turkey's support to Iraq's stability.
MILITARY PLANE CRASHES: TWO DIE
A military plane crashed in Aegean city of Manisa. One colonel and lieutenant, who were aboard the plane but who could not jump out of the plane, died in the accident.

TURKISH TO BE OFFICIAL LANGUAGE IN KOSOVO
Kosovan Prime Minister Haradinaj, who held a press conference in Pristina on the International Mother Language Day, said that they were preparing a law to make Turkish an official language in Kosovo, and added that they would do their best to achieve that goal.
