President Dervis Eroglu has issued a message, wishing everyone a happy and prosperous New Year. Touching upon the Cyprus negotiations process and the upcoming tripartite meeting in New York next month, the President said that it was his hope that the Greek Cypriot Side would adopt a more constructive stance in the New Year, one within agreed UN parameters.
Stating that over the past year, progress had been achieved in some areas of the 6 chapters being negotiated with the Greek Cypriot Side, President Eroglu said that more progress could have been achieved if the Greek Cypriot Side had stayed within the UN parameters.
He reminded that the international community desired a speedy solution to the Cyprus Problem and acknowledged that the process could not go on forever.
Pointing out that the Cyprus Turkish Side was working hard, in line with the promise made to the UN Secretary General Ban Ki Moon, to make the best of the little time left before the Greek Cypriot Side takes over the EU term Presidency, Eroglu reminded that the Cyprus Turkish Side was constantly bringing constructive proposals on all the outstanding issues to the negotiating table.
Reiterating the Cyprus Turkish Side’s resolve to the Cyprus Problem and to put and to the uncertainty caused by the Cyprus Problem, the President said that the Cyprus Turkish people no longer wanted to remain a hostage of the negotiations process.
“Our goal is to create a lasting, just and viable partnership. We are ready to do what is necessary to achieve this†he added.
Pointing out that the TRNC was improving and developing every passing day with the support and assistance provided by motherland Turkey, the President said that a bright and prosperous future awaited the Cyprus Turkish people.
