Minister of Communications and Public Works Hamza Ersan Saner said that Ercan Airport shall be privatized for 20-25 years on a built operate transfer model and that there shall be a bid in the first months of the new year.

Saner said that the increase in customer capacity and strengthening of the TRNC necessitates reorganization of the Ercan Airport. Saner said that 1million passenger capacity has been increased to 2 millions however this also is not enough and some problems are being faced at the airport.

Saner said: “We are planning to give the right to operate to a private firm for 20-25 years. A bid shall be announced in the first months of 2012 and the airport shall be the best airport that can serve the country.”
