MINYEH, Lebanon, Feb 18 (AFP) - Assailants torched Friday dozens of tents belonging to Syrian workers in northern Lebanon, in the latest attack after the assassination of former prime minister Rafiq Hariri blamed by many on Syria.
"Three cars of armed elements attacked a Syrian camp in Minyeh, near the main northern port city of Tripoli, this afternoon," a police officer told AFP.
"They burned about 40 tents, with all the belongings of the workers, before fleeing the area," he said.
There were no casualties, he added.
On Thursday, gunmen opened fire on a truckload of Syrian workers in eastern Lebanon before beating them up and stealing their money. Authorities detained four people after the incident.
Groups of Syrian workers have also came under attack in Hariri's hometown, the main southern city of Sidon.
Lebanon's opposition has blamed Syria for the massive bomb blast Monday which destroyed Hariri's motorcade, killing the former prime minister and another 14 people.
Syria has come under increased pressure to pull its 14,000 troops out of Lebanon and end its political dominance of its smaller neighbour.
