BEIRUT, Feb 18 (AFP) - Two people were killed in a blast at a petrol station southeast of Beirut on Friday, Lebanese security services said, although the cause is not yet known.
A correspondent for Al-Jazeera television said the explosion could have been caused by a short-circuit at the petrol station in Shoueifat.
The area is a stronghold of the Druze community, whose allegiances are split between prominent opposition leader MP Walid Jumblatt and pro-Syrian Minister of the Displaced Talal Arslan.
Jumblatt is leading opposition calls for the resignation of the government since Monday's bomb blast that kiled former prime minister Rafiq Hariri.
