Turkish Red Crescent To Send Humanitarian Aid To Pakistan

ANKARA - Turkey will send humanitarian aid to victims of last week's flood disaster in Pakistan.
The Turkish Prime Ministry Press Center said on Thursday that hundreds of people were killed, six villages were wiped of the map and nearly 60 thousand people were left homeless in the flood disaster in Pakistan.
''Search-and-rescue efforts have still been continuing in the affected areas. Many countries sent medical equipment, potable water and foodstuffs to victims of the disaster. However, relief efforts have been hampered since snow and landslides blocked roads in the hard-hit areas. Meanwhile, relief efforts have been continuing in southwestern Balochistan province, where thousands of troops have been mobilized to help displaced villagers, and the United Nations has pledged 100,000 U.S. dollars for food, shelter and safe water,'' it said.
The Center added, ''Turkish Red Crescent prepared a package of humanitarian aid. The aid includes 7.5 tones of foodstuffs and medicine. It will be sent to Pakistan on February 22nd by a military plane.''
A week of torrential rain and heavy snow in Pakistan has left more than 500 people dead, including dozens buried under avalanches and more killed when a dam burst.
