Denktas: Visit Of U.S. Businessmen To Cyprus Is Just For Propaganda Before Elections

MERSIN - President Rauf Denktas of Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) said, ''the visit of U.S. businessmen to Cyprus is just for propaganda purpose before elections, not for lifting the blockade (over TRNC).''
Speaking to reporters in southern Turkish city of Mersin on Monday, Denktas said, ''external intervention has started from many circles prior to general elections which will be held in Cyprus on February 20th.''
''U.S. businessmen will visit Cyprus to make propaganda for the political parties they wanted to win in elections. What has been done prior to referendum (in Cyprus last year), is now repeated prior to elections. I hope our people will see the trick. Turkish Cypriots should know that the visiting delegation would ask for the withdrawal of Turkish troops from the island in return for their assistance,'' affirmed Denktas.
Denktas noted, ''since 1964 the United States has been trying to make Cyprus part of Greece . They try to remove Turkey from the island and reduce Turkish Cypriots to the rank of minority.''
