Distribution of seats in new Iraqi national assembly

BAGHDAD, Feb 13 (AFP) - Twelve political lists will be represented in Iraq`s new 275-seat national assembly, according to a calculation by AFP and experts, using the system for distributing seats laid out in the electoral law.
But officials cautioned that definitive results would only be announced after a three-day period allowing the electoral commission to investigate complaints about polling day.

- United Iraqi Alliance, Shiite coalition backed by Grand Ayatollah Ali al-Sistani: 140 seats
- Kurdish Alliance of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan and the Kurdistan Democratic Party: 75 seats
- Iraqi List of outgoing Prime Minister Iyad Allawi: 40 seats
- Iraqiyun list of outgoing President Ghazi al-Yawar: 5
- Iraqi Turkmen Front: 3
- National Independent Cadres and Elite, linked to radical Shiite cleric Moqtada Sadr: 3
- People`s Union (communist): 2
- Kurdistan Islamic Group: 2
- Islamic Action Organisation in Iraq/Central Direction (Shiite): 2
- National Democratic Alliance of Abed Faisal Ahmed: 1
- National list of Mesopotamia (Christian): 1
- Reconciliation and Liberation Gathering of Sunni Mishaan al-Juburi: 1

The Iraqi election system is one of proportional representation with the whole country being treated as one constituency.
