PARIS, Feb 13 (AFP) - Former grand prix driver Maurice Trintignant, the uncle of acclaimed French actor Jean-Louis Trintignant, died on Saturday in a Nimes hospital, aged 87.
Born in 1917, Trintignant took part in 82 races and drove for Gordini, Ferrari, Vanwall, Cooper, Maserati, BRM, Lotus and Aston Martin winning two races in Monaco in 1955 in a Ferrari and in 1958 in a Cooper.
He was nicknamed the 'Gentleman Racer' and was a contemporary of Juan-Manuel Fangio, Stirling Moss, Mike Hawthorn, Jack Brabham, Bruce McLaren and Phil Hill.
He also won the Le Mans 24 Hour Race in 1954.
