ANKARA - Hugh Bredenkamp, the representative of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) in Turkey, said on Wednesday that they were worried about the draft law on incentives envisaging an increase in the number of cities taken within the scope of incentive. In fact the number of cities will go up to 49 from the actual figure of 36.
In an interview with the private CNBC-E TV Channel, Bredenkamp said that the draft law was a matter of concern for them because the necessary resources were not provided in the budget to support the incentives.
Recalling that there were some legal arrangements to be done before submission of the new agreement to the IMF Board, Bredenkamp said that they had been trying to solve such issues.
Noting that the draft on tax management should be enacted by the Turkish parliament before the approval of the new Stand-by agreement, Bredenkamp said that the schedule was not determined by IMF, but by the Turkish government and the parliament.
Pointing out that recent inflation figures encouraged them, Bredenkamp added that the disinflation program was going on track.
