Denial By Turkish Prime Minister Erdogan

MALE - Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan said on Wednesday that he did not give an interview to the German Welt am Sonntag newspaper correspondent, but he held a brief talk with the relevant journalist during the World Economic Forum in Davos, adding, ''what was written in the news report about turban does not reflect my views.''
Releasing a statement through his press advisor Ahmet Tezcan, Prime Minister Erdogan, who is currently touring southern Asia, denied the news report of the German Welt am Sonntag newspaper.
''I told the journalist that we can expend efforts to lift the ban on turban, but social compromise was a prerequisite for this. I also said that the issue could not be discussed without a social compromise,'' Erdogan said.
Noting that the news report stemmed from a wrong perception on the part of the journalist and there are also some editing mistakes, Erdogan added, ''I definitely did not tell the German journalist that my daughter was wearing turban to keep up with fashion.''
