ANKARA - Tunisian Foreign Minister Abdelbaki Hermassi, who is currently in Ankara on an official visit, met on Wednesday with Turkish Industry & Trade Minister Ali Coskun.
Speaking at the meeting, Coskun said that economic, cultural and social relations between Turkey and Tunisia had recently gained a new dimension.
''We are planning to encourage Turkish and Tunisian businessmen to attend fairs in order to get detailed information about industry and economy of each other. For instance, Turkey will take part in Tunisian National Fair. In return, we invite Tunisian businessmen to attend International Izmir Fair,'' he said.
Coskun stressed that the trade volume between the two countries should be increased to 1 billion U.S. dollars in the coming years.
Meanwhile, Hermassi said in his part that the Free Trade Agreement, which was signed by Turkey and Tunisia last year, would make a significant contribution to efforts to further improve bilateral economic and commercial relations.
''We want to purchase 9 thousand tons of textile products from Turkey. We have been holding necessary talks with the EU to this end. A special customs agreement should be signed for imports of textile products by Tunisia from Turkey. All these details will be discussed during today's meeting of Turkey-Tunisia Joint Economic Commission,'' Hermassi added.
