PHUKET - Turkish Premier Recep Tayyip Erdogan said, ''members of Organization for the Islamic Conference (OIC) want the organization to be more active.''
Erdogan held a news conference at Sheraton Grande Laguna Hotel in Phuket island of Thailand on Tuesday.
When a reporter asked, ''what will be Turkey's strategical and economic interests towards the region in the next time period?'' Erdogan said, ''tsunami disaster is on the top of the agenda of our visit. We have discussed about the disaster. Also we had the chance to discuss commercial, economic and cultural relations between Turkey and regional countries. We have decided to enhance our mutual relations.''
When asked, ''during your meeting with Iranian FM Kamal Kharrazi, did you discuss your meeting with U.S. Secretary of State Condolezza Rice and regional issues?'' Erdogan said, ''we took up Middle East issue and commercial relations between Turkey and Iran with Mr. Kharrazi.''
Upon a question about the position of South Asian countries regarding the lifting of blockade against Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) and Cyprus issue in general, Erdogan said, ''these countries share the same feelings with Turkey. They said blockade against TRNC is wrong.''
