CANBERRA - Australian authorities have announced today (Monday) that Australia extends full support to Turkey's European Union (EU) membership.
''The Australian government can not influence the EU about whom it will select for membership. However, we support Turkey's EU membership,'' said Alexander Downer, Australian Minister of Foreign Affairs.
Downer added that Turkey's EU membership will not only benefit Turkey but also the whole Europe itself.
Meanwhile, the construction for the new Turkish Embassy in Canberra has started today. Turkey's Ambassador to Australia Tansu Okandan has remarked that the Classical Turkish Music group will give a concert, titled ''concert of peace,'' on the 90th anniversary of the Gallipoli Battle.
