MIAMI BEACH, Florida, Feb 4 (AFP) - Cuban-American actor Andy Garcia is putting the final touches on his directorial debut, "The Lost City," a film about a family living through the 1959 Cuban revolution that brought Fidel Castro to power.
Garcia, a Cuban exile who opposes Castro's regime, said here Friday he had finished filming in the Dominican Republic and that the movie was in post-production.
The film is based on the novel by award-winning Cuban writer Guillermo Cabrera Infante, who lives in exile in Britain.
The movie is about "impossible love for a woman, and the woman in this case represents the island," Garcia said.
Garcia was in Miami Beach for the Miami International Film Festival, which featured his role in "Modigliani," in which he stars as the early 20th century Italian painter and sculptor Amedeo Modigliani.
Comparing the United States to communist-led Cuba, the actor said: "The great thing about having a point of view of what's going on in Cuba, (is that) in America ... you can have a point of view and you don't get in prison by it, whereas in Cuba you do."
