ATHENS, Feb 3 (AFP) - Maltese coastguard Thursday recovered the bodies of four sailors while three others were reported missing after a freighter sank in the Mediterranean in gale force winds, the Greek merchant marine ministry said.
The Honduras-registered vessel Vigla was carrying a cargo of salt from Tunisia to Slovenia when it foundered at 2245 GMT on Thursday, some 140 nautical miles east of Malta and 220 nautical miles south of Greece, the ministry said.
Winds were registering gale force eight and nine on the beaufort scale in the area, it said.
