Baseball Hall of Famer Yogi Berra filed a $10 million lawsuit in Manhattan Supreme Court in late January 2005, objecting to the unauthorized use of his name in advertising for reruns of HBO's "Sex and the City."
The campaign ran on large outdoor billboards and in magazines, asking readers to define a coined term, "yogasm." Among the multiple-choice answers was a description of a sexual act involving the former New York Yankees catcher.
The ad also featured a suggestive photograph of actress Kim Cattrall, whose character Samantha is known on the series for her active love life.
Berra's legal filing argued that linking his name to a sexual reference had damaged his long-standing public image. Berra, then 76 and described in the filing as deeply religious, named Turner Broadcasting System as the defendant. Turner was airing the reruns at the time the suit was filed.
