13th Extraordinary Congress Of CHP Starts

ANKARA (AA) - The 13th extraordinary congress of the Republican People`s Party (CHP) started on Saturday.
     On the first day of the two-day congress, the new leader of the CHP will be elected.
     Earlier, Deniz Baykal, the current leader of the CHP, and Mustafa Sarigul, the mayor of Sisli district of Istanbul, disclosed their candidacy for leadership.
     A total of 1,253 delegates will cast their votes to elect the new leader.
     Under the CHP regulation, votes of 628 delegates are required to elect the new leader in the first round.
     If the necessary number of votes cannot be reached in the first and second rounds, the candidate who gets the highest number of votes, will become the new leader in the third round.
     On the second day of the congress, new members of the 80-person Party Assembly and 15-person Higher Disciplinary Board will be elected.
