The candidate list of Republican People’s Party (CHP) chairman Kemal Kilicdaroglu will be given its final shape after being debated at CHP’s central executive board and party assembly. While preparing the list, Kilicdaroglu was stuck between the demands of the "organization" and expectations of the "public", and between "tradition" and "change".
After the central executive board holds the final talks on the candidate lists this morning, names will be determined at the party assembly.
CHP-BDP ALLIANCE
It has been claimed that Republican People’s Party (CHP), which is planning to carry Ergenekon suspects to the parliament, has also started a secret election alliance with Peace & Democracy Party (BDP). According to this formula, CHP will announce candidates close to BDP in some provinces and collect votes there. In return for such favor, CHP will support BDP in Turkey’s southeast where it has a weak presence.
EVEN IF ERGENEKON SUSPECTS ARE ELECTED, THEY CANNOT ENTER PARLIAMENT
A warning came from a representative of the government in relation to the moves aiming to help Ergenekon and Balyoz case suspects become elected at the upcoming elections and be saved from imprisonment. Turkish State Minister Hayati Yazici, one of the legist members of the government, said that Republican People’s Party’s (CHP) announcing Mustafa Balbay and Mehmet Haberal as candidates and National Movement Party’s (MHP) including retired Gen. Engin Alan’s name in its list would lead to a legal chaos. According to Yazici, even if these names are elected, they will not be able to enter the parliament without a court decision. Yazici also said all these efforts were in fact a part of a plan which aimed at creating a conflict between the judiciary and the parliament.
