American soldier killed in Baghdad in bloodiest US day in Iraq

BAGHDAD, Jan 26 (AFP) - A US soldier was killed in a bomb blast in Baghdad on Wednesday, raising the US death toll to 37 in the bloodiest single day for US forces in Iraq, the military said.
"A Task Force Baghdad soldier died from an improvised-explosive-device detonation about 4:30 pm (1330 GMT) January 26," said a statement.
Earlier, a US marine helicopter crashed killing 31 American troops. Another four marines died in combat in Al-Anbar province and a soldier was killed north of Baghdad when his patrol was attacked.
