Turkey’s Nobel-laureate author promotes his book in Germany

Turkey’s Nobel literature prize winning novelist promoted his book in Germany on Sunday.
Orhan Pamuk attended an activity in Cologne, Germany in which his novel named "Cevdet Bey ve Ogullari" (Cevdet Bey and His Sons) was promoted.
The book has been translated into German, and has become the 12th book by Pamuk published in Germany.
"I have been impressed by Leo Tolstoy’s ’War and Peace’ and Ivan Goncharov’s ’Oblamov’ novels when writing this book," Pamuk said.
His first novel, Cevdet Bey and His Sons, was published in 1982. The novel is the story of three generations of a wealthy Istanbul family living in Nisantasi, Pamuk’s own home district. The novel was awarded both the Orhan Kemal and Milliyet literary prizes.
Pamuk will participate in another event in Hamburg to promote his novel.
Orhan Pamuk’s books have been translated into 46 languages, including Georgian, Malayan, Czech, Danish, Japanese, Catalan, as well as English, German and French.
Born in Istanbul in 1952, Pamuk is one of the most prominent novelists in Turkey. His books have sold over seven million in more than fifty languages, making him the Turkey’s best-selling writer. Pamuk is the recipient of numerous literary awards, including the Nobel Prize in Literature in 2006.
