Turkey to ask Germany to return an ancient sphinx kept in Berlin

Turkish culture & tourism minister will meet his German counterpart on Tuesday to demand that German government return an ancient sphinx unearthed in Turkey but kept in Berlin for years.
Turkish minister Ertugrul Gunay will be visiting Germany this week to attend the International Tourism Bourse in Berlin where he will also have a meeting with Bernd Neumann, German Minister of State for Culture.
Gunay will ask Neumann to return the Hattusa sphinx, found by German archaeologists in the ancient city of Hattusa in central Anatolia. German archaeologists have been excavating the ancient site since 1906 and the Bronze Age sphinx is considered to be their biggest discovery.
In an earlier interview with a German newspaper, Gunay had said Turkey could cancel the licence of German archaeologist team unless the sphinx is returned to Turkey by June.
