Turkish Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu said that Turkey did not reject any method that lied on mutual acceptance in order to alleviate differences of opinion in the Aegean.
In an interview with the Greek Kathimerini newspaper, Davutoglu said that it was vital to solve the Aegean problem in order to develop relations between Turkey and Greece.
An agreement in the Aegean must respect the basic rights and legal interests of the two countries, Davutoglu said.
In response to a question on Turkish thesis that the island of Kastelorizo must be evaluated as one out of a solution package for the Aegean, Davutoglu stressed that the exploratory talks between Turkey and Greece were related to the Aegean and that Kastelorizo was an island that belonged to the Mediterranean Sea.
Turkey has valid legal and political thesis regarding the island of Kastelorizo, Davutoglu underlined.
Touching on Turkish war ships and military jets, Davutoglu said that such ships and jets had the right to travel freely in the Aegean region.
I feel difficulty in understanding Greek objections to Turkish ships and jets in the Aegean, Davutoglu noted.
In regard to a question on joint search for oil in the Aegean, Davutoglu said that Turkey and Greece had close cooperation in the energy field.
Turkey wishes to further strengthen such cooperation with Greece, Davutoglu added.
