Pop singer Christina Aguilera was taken into custody in west Hollywood in the early hours of Tuesday morning on a public intoxication charge, the local sheriff's department confirmed.
Officers stopped a car near a west Hollywood nightclub at approximately 2:45 a.m. The driver, Matthew Rutler, identified as Aguilera's boyfriend, was arrested on suspicion of drunk driving. Aguilera, a passenger in the vehicle, was booked at the sheriff's office at around 3:30 a.m.
She was released on $250 bail and will not be required to appear in court. Rutler faces a separate charge; his bail was set at $30,000.
Aguilera holds four Grammy Awards: best new artist in 1999, best pop collaboration in 2001, and best female pop vocal performance in both 2003 and 2006. She and husband Jordan Bratman separated last year after five years of marriage, with no divorce proceedings reported at the time.
