JERUSALEM, Jan 25 (AFP) - Palestinians from occupied east Jerusalem will need permission to travel to the West Bank town of Ramallah after Israel's separation barrier is completed around the holy city, the Haaretz daily reported Tuesday.
Colonel Mickey Edelstein, commander of the local regional brigade, was quoted on the newspaper's website as saying that the main Qalandiya checkpoint which residents have to pass through will be upgraded to a terminal when work of the Jerusalem section of the barrier is completed in July.
His comments were made in a meeting with members of the checkpoint watchdog, Maschom Watch, the paper added.
There was no immediate comment on the report from the Israeli military.
