Samsung Unveils 10.1-Inch Galaxy Tab and a Slimmer Smartphone

Samsung introduced a larger Galaxy Tab on Sunday, featuring a 10.1-inch display. The announcement came four months after the company brought its first tablet, the seven-inch original, to market in October.

The new model runs the latest version of Android and measures 10.9 millimetres thick, with a weight of 599 grams.

Samsung also presented the Galaxy S II smartphone ahead of the mobile industry's annual conference in Barcelona, describing it as the thinnest in the world at 8.49 millimetres. JK Shin, who leads the company's mobile division, said the team concentrated on "screen, speed and content."

The Galaxy S II includes voice recognition that lets users dictate text messages instead of typing them. It also supports NFC (Near Field Communication) technology, allowing contactless payments, such as boarding public transit by tapping the handset near a reader.
