MILLIYET- The Republican People’s Party (CHP) is trying to conclude its extraordinary congress to be held on Saturday by changing, but not by being divided. 12 provinces’ provincial chairmen made a call yesterday that the congress would be the ‘Unity of Power Congress.’ This statement, made by Aksaray, Gaziantep, Bolu, Sakarya, Erzurum, Kahramanmaras, Usak, Sirnak, Sivas, Osmaniye, Elazig and Kilis provincial chairmen was also signed by the Karabuk delegation. They want the congress to be held with one candidate. In addition, the CHP’s opposition wings are trying to reach a consensus about what shouldn’t happen. However, they can’t make a decision on the candidate leader who will carry the CHP to the congress with a democratic structure. There is the problem of signature Sisli Mayor Mustafa Sarigul. CHP deputy Ahmet Guryuz Ketenci said, ‘We’ll apply with 500 signatures.’ In addition, Zulfu Livaneli’s candidacy isn’t certain yet. Some people talk about certain contacts between the staff of Sarigul and Livaneli. Although Livaneli closes the door to the alliance, saying that Baykal will own his votes, a bilateral meeting might be held.
In the formula aiming to decrease the number of candidates against CHP leader Deniz Baykal, lobbies talked about retired ambassador Sukru Elekdag.
