Turkish soccer club, Galatasaray’s new home stadium, Turk Telekom Arena, will open with a friendly game with Ajax on January 15.
The grand opening will feature a massive audio-visual dance show designed and directed by Canadian art and multimedia director Erick Villeneuve featuring 90 dancers.
Four trucks filled with special equipment was brought to Istanbul, says Villeneuve, who promises a magnificent show for Galatsaray supporters.
"Turk Telekom Arena is not just a venue for sports but it is a symbol of modernity. A space for collective self expression," says Villeneuve.
The dancers will perform on a massive stage at the center of the stage, and the dancer’s performance blended with audio-visual effects will be projected on large screens that will be installed all around the arena.
"It will be a scene worth seeing from above for the spectators. There will be other surprises for spectators who come to the arena on that day," said Villeneuve.
The Arena, which unlike many stadiums rests on a hill, has a capacity to hold 52,467 spectators. It is 190m in width and 228m in length. The arena which was sponsored by Turkey’s only fixed line operator Turk Telekom, has a huge parking lots for 4,500 vehicles and has a subway connection.
The arena will not just host Galatasaray’s games but also other events like concerts and shows.
