A renowned Argentine piano virtuoso will perform in Turkey for the first time within the framework of a series of concerts to be organized by a reputable Turkish university.
Argentine concert pianist Martha Argerich will give two concerts in Istanbul on January 19-20 within the scope of Bogazici University’s "Albert Long Hall Classical Music Concerts".
During her performances, Argerich will be accompanied by renowned Turkish violinist Ayla Erduran, her daughter violist Lyda Chen, violinist Omer Sipahi and cellist Jing Zhao, a statement from Bogazici University said on Monday.
Martha Argerich, born in Buenos Aires in 1941, is an Argentine concert pianist.
She started playing the piano at age three and gave her debut concert in 1949 at the age of eight, playing Beethoven’s Piano Concerto No. 1 in C major, Op. 15.
Starting from the age of twelve, Argerich studied with well-known masters such as Friedrich Gulda, Stefan Askenase and Maria Curcio. She rose to international prominence when she won the seventh International Frederic Chopin Piano Competition in Warsaw in 1965.
Argerich is widely recognized as one of the greatest modern-day pianists and one of the greatest pianists of the 20th century, besides, her technique is considered amongst the most formidable of her time.
