GAZA CITY, Jan 23 (AFP) - The widow of the late Palestinian leader Yasser Arafat, Suha Arafat, took part in this year's Muslim pilgrimage to Mecca accompanied by her daughter, a close family member said Sunday.
"Suha took part in the hajj with her daughter at the invitation of the Saudi Arabian government," the friend said on condition of anonymity.
Suha, the daughter of a wealthy Palestinian Christian couple, converted to Islam after her marriage to Arafat in 1990.
She has not been seen in the Palestinian territories since the death of her husband on November 11. The couple had one child, a daughter called Zahwa, who was born in 1995.
