Democracy, human rights & freedoms should be strengthened for modernity, Turkish State Minister

Turkish State Minister Faruk Celik said on Sunday that democracy should be strengthened and steps should be taken on human rights and freedoms in order to become a modern country.
Speaking at the ground-breaking ceremony for the "Nostalgic Tram Line" in north-western province of Bursa, Celik said Turkey’s current government took actions rather than giving promises.
He said the government displayed efforts to solve Turkey’s problems, and thanks to that, Turkey had made a remarkable progress.
"It is more important to act than to reiterate the words voiced 80-90 years ago. How can a country reach the level of modern civilizations? It is done by strengthening democracy and taking steps on human rights and freedoms. Otherwise, one cannot reach that level," Celik said.
"People tend to make mistakes under closed regimes. Once democracy, rights and law are expanded, these mistakes will diminish," the minister added.
