Turkey’s National Security Council convened under the chairmanship President Abdullah Gul in Ankara on Wednesday.
The regular meeting of the council focused on recent developments both in Turkey and in the world.
The statement released after the meeting said, "our people’s will to live together in peace and tranquility is the strongest guarantee for unity and solidarity of our country. We, once again, reiterate that our people’s will to live together will not allow any attempts targeting the indivisible unity of our state with its country and nation and our social tranquillity, to yield any results. Therefore, it is of vital importance that everyone should refrain from attempts that could harm development of individual rights and freedoms, social peace and the feeling of brotherhood."
The council said in its statement, "any attempts to change the understanding of single flag, single nation, single homeland and single state as well as the fact that Turkish is the official language of Turkey are totally unacceptable."
The National Security Council said that Turkey’s fight against terror would continue with the same determination and without making any concessions.
Referring to the developments in the world, the council welcomed formation of the new government in Iraq on December 21.
"Turkey will continue extending support to the Iraqi government in its efforts to resolve political, economic and social problems," it said.
Developments in Turkey-Iraq-the USA tripartite mechanism were also discussed at the meeting.
"Turkey will continue extending full support to the constructive efforts of President Dervis Eroglu of the Turkish republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) and the ongoing negotiation process on the island," the statement added.
