Turkey`s permanent representative to UN Ertugrul Apakan said that Turkey believed that Afghanistan`s stability as well as its social and political adjustment would be stronger in the future, and Turkey was ready to extend every type of support within that scope.
Attending a meeting of UN Security Council on Afghanistan on Wednesday, Apakan said that the year 2010 had been important for Afghanistan, adding that although the situation in the country was serious, Afghans continued to take over the responsibility in governing the country.
He added that the support of the UN was very important in strengthening the Afghan institutions.
Despite all security problems in the country, holding parliamentary elections for the first time since 2001 was an important step in Afghanistan`s political process, he said.
Noting that Turkey had been actively working for years to make a cooperation among Afghanistan, its neighbors and regional countries, Apakan said that the 4th Conference of Afghanistan Regional Economic Cooperation was held in Istanbul in November, and Turkey-Afghanistan-Pakistan tripartite summit would take place in Istanbul on December 24.
Apakan stressed that the tripartite summit process, which Turkey initiated in 2007, turned into a live platform in developing multi-dimensional cooperation.
