The Turkish interior minister said on Monday that Turkey`s ruling Justice and Development (AK) Party did not implement a regional and ethnical policy.
Speaking at a parliamentary session on the 2011 budget of his ministry, Turkish Interior Minister Besir Atalay said, "We are embracing all our citizens and we want to bring them closer to each other. We want to fix what has been broken before and remedy the negligences".
Commenting on the progress of the democratic move, Atalay said the government carried out the national unity and brotherhood project in a sensitive and determined way.
Noting that the government was not afraid of freedoms, Atalay said the ruling party had been displaying efforts to improve freedoms and democracy, adding the government expected opposition`s contribution to the matter.
"All the phases of our process are open and clear. All levels of the state are working on it. Citizens are hopeful about the outcome," the minister said.
"Once these problems are resolved, Turkey`s unity and atmosphere of brotherhood will be strengthened. If the issue is not solved, achieving a solution will be more difficult for Turkey in the future and the country will face tougher problems," he added.
Regarding the situation at Turkey`s borders, Atalay said Turkey would soon establish an integrated border management mechanism.
Noting that such a system was also envisaged by EU documents, Atalay said EU-member states established civilian border security mechanisms different than police and military forces, adding Turkey had to implement such a system as well.
Atalay said a new organization solely responsible for border security would be set up within the body of the Turkish Ministry of Interior within that framework.
