ANKARA - President Dervis Eroglu of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) has undergone heart surgery in Ankara to clear a partially blocked artery.
President Abdullah Gul, Parliament Speaker Mehmet Ali Sahin, Deputy Prime Minister Cemil Cicek and Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu visited Eroglu at hospital.
Doctors said that Eroglu was still in intensive care unit following a successful coronary bypass surgery at Ankara`s Guven Hospital on Sunday. They added that he was in stable condition.
President Eroglu is set to meet with Greek Cypriot leader Demetris Christofias under Cyprus talks on December 28, but it`s unclear whether that meeting will take place because no date for Eroglu`s return to the island has been set.
The two leaders will meet with UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon in Geneva, Switzerland in late January to assess progress in Cyprus talks.
