WASHINGTON, Jan 19 (AFP) - US President George W. Bush and Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh discussed warm US-India ties and cooperation in response to last month's tsunami disaster, the White House said Wednesday.
"The president called the prime minister Singh on the impressive response by the government of India immediately following the tsunami," said spokesman Scott McClellan. The undersea quake left some 220,000 dead in the Indian Ocean region.
"The leaders discussed the good cooperation between India and the United States in coordinating the response in conjunction with other countries in the region that were affected," the spokesman said.
"The cooperation exemplifies a bilateral relationship that continues to grow stronger. The two leaders also talked about working together to foster economic dialogue and to take advantage of the great potential in the bilateral economic relationship," he said.
