Britain updates tsunami toll to 349 dead and presumed dead

LONDON, Jan 17 (AFP) - Britain on Monday lowered to 349 the number of its citizens or residents who were killed or feared dead in the Asian tsunami disaster, including 52 confirmed dead.
The government's last toll for the December 26 earthquake, which affected 11 Indian Ocean countries and has left more than 168,000 people dead to date, was 349 people who had likely been killed, and 51 who had been confirmed dead.
The number of British citizens or residents unaccounted for also fell, from 568 to 464. The figure had been around 7,000 in the immediate aftermath of the catastrophe.
