'The Sea Inside' wins best foreign-language Golden Globe

BEVERLY HILLS, California, Jan 16 (AFP) - The Spanish movie "The Sea Inside," based on the real-life story of a paraplegic battling to end his life, won the Golden Globe for best foreign-language film here Sunday.
"This means a lot to us," said the film's director, writer and editor Alejandro Amenabar, who paid tribute to his cast, particularly star Javier Bardem.
"I think he's a genius as an actor and an angel as a person," Amenabar said.
Bardem was favourite to snatch the best actor in a drama Globe for his wrenching portrayal of Ramon Sampedro, a Spanish sailor who ruptured his spine in a diving accident at 26 and spent the next 30 years being cared for on his family's farm in Galicia.
"The Sea Inside" beat out two French movies, "The Chorus" and "A Very Long Engagement," as well as the Chinese martial arts epic "House of Flying Daggers" and the "The Motorcycle Diaries" from Brazil.
