BAGHDAD, Jan 14 (AFP) - Twenty-eight Iraqi common criminals, held by the Iraqi authorities, escaped Thursday night from a bus transfering them from Abu Ghraib prison to another facility, a US military spokesman said Friday.
The group was originally 38, but 10 were later captured, said Lieutenant Colonel Barry Johnson, a spokesman for US-run detention centres in Iraq.
The US military had no involvement in the incident, he said.
Abu Ghraib, west of Baghdad, houses both US military and Iraqi detention facilities.
