Foundations push back against rumors of Marley reburial in Ethiopia

Representatives for the Bob Marley and Rita Marley Foundations have flatly rejected media claims that Rita Marley intends to move her late husband's remains from Jamaica to Ethiopia. A foundation spokesperson told local press that Rita Marley herself confirmed no such relocation was being considered.

The reggae icon, born in St Ann in 1945, is interred in the rural community of Nine Miles in that same parish. He achieved worldwide fame before dying of cancer in Miami in 1981 at 36. Songs including "No Woman, No Cry" and "One Love" cemented his global legacy.

Both foundations are preparing February events to celebrate what would have been Marley's 60th birthday. Separately, speakers at a December press launch called for him to receive national hero status and a dedicated public holiday.
