LOS ANGELES, Jan 13 (AFP) - The Simon Wiesenthal Center, a leading Jewish lobby group, expressed outrage Thursday at Britain's Prince Harry wearing a Nazi soldier's uniform to a fancy-dress party.
"This was a shameful act, displaying insensitivity for the victims, not only for those of his own country who gave their lives to defeat Nazism, but to the victims of the Holocaust who were the principal victims of the Nazis," said Marvin Hier, founder of the Los Angeles-based center.
Hier urged the second-in-line to the British throne to join the British delegation visiting Auschwitz on January 27 to mark the 60th anniversary of the liberation of the Nazi death camp.
"There he will see the results of that hated symbol he so brazenly chose to wear," Hier said.
Pictures of Harry, 20, wearing a khaki uniform with an armband emblazoned with a Nazi swastika, were splashed over the front pages of British and US newspapers on Thursday.
The prince apologised for his "poor choice of costume" in a written statement.
