ANKARA (AA) - Turkish Parliament Speaker Bulent Arinc has received a U.S. congressional delegation today comprised of U.S. Senate Terrorism, Technology and National Security sub-committee chairman Jon Kyl, Senator Lisa Murkowski, Senator Mel Martinez and U.S. House Rep Adam Smith.
''I am pleased to welcome our guest parliamentarians from the U.S.,'' stated Arinc. ''We will discuss current and regional issues with our American guests.'' According to Arinc, Turkey wants not only to develop political ties with the U.S. but also commercial ones.
Senator Kyl told reporters that they came to Ankara from a visit to Israel. ''We held discussions with our counterparts in Israel. We participated in the Palestinian election as observers. We would be happy to discuss with our Turkish counterparts ways to peacefully resolve the problem between Palestine and Israel,'' remarked Kyl.
