ANKARA (AA) - Turkey congratulated Mahmoud Abbas who was elected to the high office of the Presidency of the Palestinian National Authority and wished this development will contribute to the realization of the desired peace for Palestinian people.
Releasing a written statement on Monday, Turkish Foreign Ministry expressed pleasure that the elections by which new Palestinian leader Abbas was elected in democratic ways were held in peace.
''Turkey congratulates newly elected Abbas, wishing success in his new term in office, and hopes this development will help to bring peace to Palestinian people,'' said the statement.
The statement noted, ''the elections is an important step to refresh peace process, which has been blocked for a long time, within the scope of 'road map'. Turkey wishes the new milieu, which emerged after successful elections, to be well assessed, and sides to pursue their approach with common sense in future period.''
''As Turkish Foreign Minister Abdullah Gul has stressed during his visit to the region, Turkey is ready to fulfill its mission to settle permanent peace and stability in the region,'' said the statement.
