German President Christian Wullf arrived in Ankara with his wife on Tuesday.
President Wulff first visited Atatürk's Mausoleum to pay homage to his memory.
He placed a wreath and observed a minute of silence.
Proceeding to the Çankaya Presidential palace from there, President Wulff was welcomed with official ceremony by President Abdullah Gül.
Following the national anthems of the two countries played one after another, the German President reviewed the guard of honour.
The two Presidents first held a tete a tete and later headed their delegations at the official talks between the two countries.
Wulff will meet Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and address the Turkish Grand National Assembly.
The guest President and his wife accompanied by President Gül and his wife will later go to Kayseri, the birth place of President Gül.
Cappadocia, Adana, Tarsus and Istanbul are also in the German President's programme.
Visits to various religious venues constitute almost the bulk of President Wulff's programme in Turkey.
Wulff who will visit Hagia Irene and the Pavlus Church will include the Sultanahmet Mosque and Hagia Sophia in his programme and will meet the Istanbul Fener Greek Patriarch Bartholomew.
