NEW YORK (AA) - Turkish Women's Association in New York promoted Turkey in a seminar held on Sunday.
A film promoting Turkey was shown, and participants were distributed booklets about Turkey during this activity held at the Turkish House in New York.
Taking the floor in the seminar Meltem Buberci, Deputy Tourism and Culture Attache at Turkey's Consulate General in New York, defined Turkey as ''the cradle of civilizations'' and said that there were many important historic structures in Turkey, which was the homeland of three giant empires like Roman, Byzantine and Ottoman Empires, and more than 30 civilizations.
Noting that Turkey was a country that had to be seen thanks to its historical, geographical and cultural beauties, Buberci said that number of U.S. tourists visiting Turkey increased by 30 percent in 2004 when compared with 2003.
On the other hand, Dr. Robert McKay, who first came to Turkey in 1959 and worked at the Tarsus American College for 5 years, said that everybody should see Turkey, where the most hospitable and friendly people were living.
Meanwhile, Katharine Branning, U.S. citizen who has carpet collection, made a presentation entitled ''Magic Carpets of Magic Country'' in which she promoted traditional hand-made Turkish carpets and rugs.
