Tuzmen: I Believe That Turkey Will Become One Of Most Important Exporters Of The World

ISTANBUL (AA) - Turkish State Minister Kursad Tuzmen said on Sunday, ''I believe that Turkey will become one of the most important exporters of the world in the coming years.''
     Speaking at a meeting of the Turkish Young Businessmen's Association (TUGIAD), Tuzmen said, ''in 1980s, exports were about 2.8 billion U.S. dollars and imports were nearly 6 billion U.S. dollars. Today, foreign trade figures of Turkey reached 160 billion U.S. dollars. Turkey exported various goods worth of 64 billion U.S. dollars in 2004. Exports of textile and ready-to-wear cloths rose up to 18 billion U.S. dollars.''
     ''As for exports, we will concentrate on Asia-Pacific countries, and on northern and southern America in 2006. Meanwhile, our exports to African countries increased by 40 percent. We set our target of exports for 2005 as 75 billion U.S. dollars. I believe that Turkey will become one of the most important exporters of the world in the coming years,'' Tuzmen added.
